Chelated
zinc formula for greater effectiveness and
absorption
Zinc
is one of the most important of all minerals. It
is found in every cell in the body and it is an
integral component of over 200 enzymes. Highly
concentrated in red and white blood cells, it
contributes to the proper functioning of a
number of hormones, including growth and sex
hormones. For example, zinc has been shown to
support healthy levels of the hormone
dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Zinc's role in
supporting healthy levels of this hormone is
significant, because only half of all men
between the ages of 40 and 60 have optimal DHT
levels.
PhysioLogics has
formulated Zinc Plex based on the latest
research. Zinc Plex combines three zincs
chelated with three different amino acids: L-arginine,
L-glycine, and L-histidine. The first, zinc
arginate, is included because L-arginine is
found in high quantities in the male
reproductive tract. Zinc arginate has been shown
in animal studies to increase zinc levels in the
male reproductive organs more effectively than
other forms of zinc. The second form of chelated
zinc, zinc histidine, was developed so that the
zinc and L-histidine could work cooperatively to
enhance the effectiveness of one another. Zinc
or L-histidine alone can cause a decrease in the
other's levels, so they are combined to
safeguard the benefits of both. The third form
of chelated zinc is zinc glycinate, which has
been shown to help increase zinc levels
throughout the body. Finally, copper has been
included in the formula because higher intakes
of zinc can affect copper absorption, and zinc
and copper work best when balanced.
Zinc also offers
powerful support for the immune system,
antioxidant metabolism, energy metabolism, and
synthesis of DNA and RNA. Although severe zinc
deficiencies are rare, research indicates that
many Americans may not get the zinc they need.
