PhysioLogics' iodine is extracted from kelp and
standardized to contain 0.2% iodine, from batch
to batch, bottle to bottle. The amino acid
L-tyrosine is also included because it is an
important precursor to the thyroid hormones.
Coleus forskohlii is a
perennial herb from the mint family. Recent
in-vitro research conducted at some of America's
top universities indicates that coleus may
enhance thyroid function by activating the
enzyme adenylate cyclase, which increases levels
of cyclic AMP (cAMP), a chemical messenger for
some hormones which is synthesized from ATP.
Zinc is essential for
healthy thyroid function. Zinc is a cofactor
that is required by more than 200 enzymes, and
is an integral part of the body's ongoing
process of repair and renewal. Zinc is also
essential for proper growth and development, and
is involved in the metabolism of prostaglandins
and the body's inflammatory response. Copper is
included in the formula because high intakes of
zinc can affect copper absorption.
