Grape
seed extract – a powerful antioxidant from the
seeds of the Vitis vinifera – is estimated to
be 20 to 50 times more powerful than either
vitamin C or E against certain free radicals.
There are an estimated 20,000 different types of
bioflavonoids found in various herbs and foods,
but the group found in grape seed – the
proanthocyanidins (OPCs) – are some of
nature's most potent antioxidants.
An in-vitro study
confirms that OPCs are among the most powerful
antioxidants ever tested. Grape seeds have a
higher active concentration of OPCs than any
other source. Extensive studies in France during
the 1970s found that grape seed contains unique
'gallic esters' which are powerful free radical
scavengers. They protect against free radical or
oxidative damage with their potent scavenging
action. Scientists theorize that this damage to
cells may be linked to the aging process.

researchers have found that OPCs help reinforce
and strengthen collagen fibers. They believe
