In Chinese herbalism, it is said that men are ruled by
Qi while women are ruled by blood. This means primarily
that men need to take Qi tonics and Yang herbs while a
woman should take primarily blood tonics and Yin herbs.
Men require an abundance of Qi and Yang, but this does
not mean that a man does not need blood and Yin. In fact
the opposite is quite true. If a man is blood deficient,
he will be weak and have low resistance to disease. If
he lacks Yin, his basic life force will be diminished. A
man must be very careful not to abuse his Yin energy by
becoming too Yang or by taking too many Yang tonics. More
