Ginseng
and Astragalus Combination has classically been
called the "King of Combinations." It is
a giant among tonic formulations, and is the
premier energy tonic of Chinese tonic herbalism.
It is traditionally said to promote the production
and circulation of Qi, strengthen the digestive
system and improve nutrient assimilation, fortify
the immune system, to improve posture and the
position of the organs. It is also used as an
excellent blood tonic. It is used as a tonic by
anyone wishing to tonify or maintain a high level
of Qi, and especially by those who are recovering
from a chronic or acute illness or surgery.
Ginseng and Astragalus Combination supports the
energy of weak people, restores energy to people
who have exhausted themselves, helps to restore
immune function in those who have debilitated
their immune system and have developed chronic
illnesses. It is currently the formula of choice

undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
It is commonly used in Chinese herbalism for
chronic fatigue, malaise, general weakness,
reduced resistance to disease, anemia, loss of
body weight, a tendency to lose blood (as in
excessive menstrual bleeding) and easy bruising.
It is also used for edema, excessive phlegm,
diarrhea and abdominal bloating. It is also used
to strengthen the internal organs when they have
prolapsed, resulting in conditions such as
hemorrhoids, fallen uterus, varicose veins and
hernia.

Note
Ginseng and Astragalus Combination has classically
been called the "King of Combinations."
It is a giant among tonic formulations, and is the
premier energy tonic of Chinese tonic herbalism.
It is classically said to promote the production
and circulation of Qi, strengthen the digestive
system and improve nutrient assimilation, fortify
the immune system, to improve posture and the
position of the organs, and as an excellent blood
tonic. It is used as a tonic by anyone wishing to
tonify or maintain a high level of Qi, and
especially by those who are recovering from a
chronic or acute illness or surgery.
Ginseng and Astragalus Combination is primarily a
Spleen tonic, and secondarily a Qi harmonizing
formulation. The Spleen, in Chinese herbalism, is
responsible for the production of energy (Qi) from
food. An inability to extract Qi from food may
result in chronic fatigue, malaise, general
weakness, reduced resistance to disease, anemia,
loss of body weight, a tendency to lose blood (as
in excessive menstrual bleeding) and easy
bruising. The Spleen is also responsible for the
circulation of moisture in the system. If Spleen
Qi is weak, edema, excessive phlegm, diarrhea and
abdominal bloating may result (a condition known
as Spleen dampness). The Spleen is also
responsible for maintaining the position of the
organs. It does this by nurturing the
"upright Qi," which flows upward. When
Spleen Qi is weak the internal organs may prolapse,
with conditions such as hemorrhoids, fallen
uterus, varicose veins and hernia being common.
In this herbal combination Astragalus is the King
herb. Astragalus invigorates the Spleen and the
Lungs, promotes healthy skin and hair, strengthens
the upright Qi, and tonifies Wei (defense) Qi.
Ginseng, White Atractylodes, Astragalus, Licorice,
and Jujube are all Qi tonics that harmonize Spleen
and Stomach function. Astragalus, Bupleurum and
Cimicifuga support the upward moving Qi in the
body reducing organ and membrane prolapse. Citrus
breaks up stagnant digestive energy. Licorice
allows the smooth flow of energy in the meridians
and with Cimicifuga, Ginger(fresh), and Bupleurum
clears toxins from the entire organism. Jujube and
Licorice harmonize all the herbs in the formula
allowing them to act as a cohesive unit.
Bupleurum and Dang Gui enter the liver and allow
the liver to harmonize its function with the
Spleen. They also release muscle tension and
improve blood circulation. Bupleurum and
Cimicifuga are cooling herbs which resolve surface
skin heat ailments such as acne, carbuncles, and
furuncles.
Dang Gui, Jujube, Astragalus, and Ginseng all help
support the bodies ability to manufacture blood
from proper dietary intake.
Ginger(fresh), and Citrus peel, relieve energy
stagnation, especially in the digestive tract, and
can help to relieve nausea and vomiting.
Astragalus, Ginseng, White Atractylodes and
Licorice strengthen the defensive energy (immune
function) or Wei Qi of the body. Ginger(fresh),
Citrus peel, and Cimicifuga are herbs that help to
resolve and clear phlegm. Cimicifuga and Bupleurum,
while not being yang herbs themselves, allow the
natural flow of Yang Qi to rise in the body.
Chronic use of medicinal herbs (especially those
that are cold, bitter, fire-purging herbs and
surface-active agents) weaken the Spleen and can
cause indigestion, bloating and diarrhea. In this
case, a Spleen tonic such as Ginseng and
Astragalus Combination would be excellent.
Ginseng and Astragalus Combination supports the
energy of weak people, returns energy to people
who have exhausted themselves, helps to restore
immune function in those who have debilitated
their immune system and have developed chronic. It
is currently the formula of choice in Japan to
protect and rebuild Qi in people undergoing
chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Ginseng and
Astragalus Combination helps to strengthen the up
right energy of the body relieving prolapse and
keeping the internal organs in their proper place.
And it is a fabulous formula to promote the
digestive function of the system. |
